I Can't Play with These

“But… but I can’t play my cello with these things!”

Is there any part of the transformation more distressing than losing the hands?  We touch, hold, and manipulate objects so much, we almost do it unconsciously.  The fine motor control necessary to use a comb, pull a lamp chain, move a chess piece, program a microwave, or close a button… these things can be most distressing to lose!  And particularly if we have a cherished hobby we identify with, like this poor piggirl – well, growing ears and a tail seem like small inconveniences by comparison!
